Hawick Royal Albert vs Blackburn United

East of Scotland Qualifying Cup R2 – Saturday 20th August 2022

Hawick Royal Albert 0
Blackburn United 2 Devine 47(p), 60

With a strong wind blowing down the park, Burnie kicked-off into the wind and Laurie Devine nearly struck in the third minute but Ross Wallace in the Hawick goal blocked the attempt.

At the other end Greg Ford saw his attempt held by Craig Saunders, whilst a Luke Meikle effort was parried round the post for a corner by Wallace. Despite the wind disadvantage it was Burnie who dominated possession.

On twenty minutes a break by Devine saw him cut inside and let go a shot just outside the area which Wallace blocked, the ball came back out to Michael Gould but again Wallace done well.

In a rare foray forward, Harry Fowler got on the end of a good move through the middle but Saunders pushed away his attempt for a corner.

The second half saw the scoring open almost immediately when Marcus Millar was pushed over at a corner and Laurie Devine converted the penalty sending Wallace the wrong way.

Then on the hour mark it was Devine again who rose to head a Luke Meikle cross beyond Wallace.

The game petered out into a scrappy affair with neither side looking likely to add to their tally. Referee Hogarth did however get a bit card happy showing yellows to both dugouts and then showing Craig Young a red card for dissent.
