Burnie go nap

East of Scotland Premier League  –  Saturday 3rd September 2022

Lothian Thistle Hutchison Vale           1          Wilson-Need 82

Blackburn United                                5          Millar 7, Campbell 19, Howe 66, Heath 84, Richards 90+4

Burnie opened the scoring with only seven minutes on the clock when Marcus Millar headed home from a corner. The lead was doubled not long after when Richie Hutton was fouled on the edge of the box and Danny Campbell stepped up to curl the ball round the wall and past the despairing dive of Ben Galloway into the corner of the net.

A minute later the homesters created their first chance and only a diving Craig Saunders at full stretch managed to touch a Sean Wringe shot round the post.  Ben Viola then fired a shot just over as Vale tried to get a foothold back into the match.

However it was Burnie who nearly went into half time further ahead when a break by Laurie Devine on the right saw him in the clear, he crossed the ball into Daryl Meikle but his first time shot was blocked by Galloway.

The second half saw Burnie in command and the third came twenty minutes after the restart when Michael Gould broke into the box on the left and then cut it back to David Howe who beat Galloway at his near post.  Marcus Millar nearly got his second of the game when his header cannoned back off a post.

Vale got one back with eight minutes remaining when Logan Wilson-Need gathered the ball on the edge ot the box, turned and fired a low drive past Saunders. However two minutes later any thought of a comeback were extinguished when Luke Meikle got on the end of a goal kick and slid in Callum Heath who guided the ball past Galloway.

Deep into injury time it was Scott Richards who took advantage of a Ben Galloway fumble when trying to gather from a long Saunders kick and notched the fifth.
