East of Scotland Premier League – Saturday 15th January 2022

Blackburn United 3 (Heath 17 & 22, Browne 72p)
Lothian Thistle Hutchison Vale 3 (Cunningham 7 & 24p, Douglas 58 )

After only 7 minutes Alex Cunningham met a cross inside the box and volleyed it home, despite Saunders getting a hand to it. Callum Heath then got a quick brace in a five minute spell to put Burnie in the lead, first an angled drive past Adams, and then a 20 yard free kick around the wall and into the bottom corner of the net. However the lead only last two minutes when Cunningham also got his second from the spot after a Drummond foul in the box. After this frantic opening period there were more chances but the sides went in level at the break.

It was Cunningham who set-up Errol Douglas after the restart as he controlled the ball and stroked it past Saunders from just outside the box to give the visitors the lead once again. However the scores were levelled with 18 minutes remaining when Marcus Millar was upended in the box and Michael Browne cooly slotted home the penalty. A few minutes later Richie Hutton had a great chance to grab a fourth when he was sent clear of the visitors backline but Adams stood his ground and blocked his shot with his legs. Deep into injury time it was Saunders who rescued a point, saving at point blank range from Douglas when a late winner looked looked on the cards.
